Hollister, California
Hollister is a short run south for us and a regular part of the week. The work here splits between residential replacement in town and longer boundary runs on the properties out toward Tres Pinos and the San Juan valley.
Wind is the difference between Hollister and the Santa Clara valley towns. The gap funnels afternoon wind through here reliably, and a solid 6 foot privacy fence is a sail. We brace and set for that rather than building the same fence we would build in a sheltered San Jose backyard.
On the larger parcels, rail fencing usually makes more sense than panels. It follows the ground, it covers distance for a fraction of the cost per foot, and it does not fight the view, which is generally the reason people bought out there.
Local rules
Fence height limits are set by the city or the county, and they are not the same across our service area. We do not publish a number for Hollister here because we have not verified one from the city's own published source, and a wrong figure on a contractor's website is worse than no figure at all.
What we do instead is check the rule for your specific address before we quote, and pull the permit ourselves if one is needed. If you want to see how much these rules vary, the four jurisdictions we have verified are compared side by side here.
